In a surprising turn of events, an image that was widely circulated as a symbol of development in Indian-administrated Kashmir ahead of the G20 Summit has been exposed as fake.

The image, which was claimed to depict a transformed Boulevard Road in Srinagar, was discovered to be a photograph of Jhautola area of Patuakhali.

Various Indian individuals and government departments, including the Department of Information and Public Relations (DIPR) in Budgam and Jammu and Kashmir, shared the image, hailing it as evidence of the city's progress. Even Indian Minister of State for External Affairs and Culture Meenakshi Lekhi responded to the tweet with approval.

The chairman of a local NGO, Wajahat Farooq Bhat, also shared the image with the same claim but has since deleted it. Additionally, social media users, such as Aquib Mir and several others, propagated the image, linking it to Boulevard Road in Srinagar and asserting that it had been renovated to welcome G20 delegates.

However, upon conducting a reverse image search, it was revealed that the picture was originally used as the display picture by a Facebook page dedicated to the development of Patuakhali's Jhautola Park.

Jhautola Park is a recreational park located in Patuakhali town. The park is dedicated to providing a space for leisure activities and promoting the development of the local area.

Meanwhile, Harsh Vardhan Shringla, the chief coordinator of the G20 event, praised the transformation of Srinagar, emphasizing the awareness campaigns and guest arrivals.

He expressed his belief that the summit would contribute to the revival of Jammu and Kashmir's economy, particularly in terms of sustainable tourism, adventure tourism, film, and eco-tourism.

As the G20 Tourism Working Group meeting approaches, the incident involving the misleading image has raised questions about the credibility of the development claims made by Indian officials in Kashmir.
