According to a report by India Today, India's National Investigation Agency (NIA) has set up a camp in Agra and is keeping an eye on 80 Bangladeshi women, who are suspected “to be engaged in fake currency dealings.”
A team of West Bengal police is jointly working on this investigation with the NIA team in Agra.
The NIA started the probe this after arresting a Bangladeshi woman, Apan Sheikh from Kolkata, in connection with fake currency dealing. This was triggered by a story India Today broke in February this year.
Currently, the NIA is tracking 80 such women in Agra and Firozabad. They have not yet revealed the identities of the suspects.
As many as 15 of them are believed to be living in Itmaduddaulah area of Agra “posing as grocery vendors while their real business is of dealing in fake currency.”
The NIA hopes to get more details about all these women, who are suspected “to be the last link between the open market and the fake currency dealers.”
