A total of 490 Bangladeshi nationals returned home on two separate special flights after being stranded in Maldives and Kuwait for over a month due to flight suspension amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
Of them, 290 returning from Kuwait by a Kuwait Airways flight landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 8:00pm, a top security airport official confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune.
Earlier in the day, a special flight from Maldives has brought back 200 Bangladeshi nationals who could not join work in the Maldives due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The flight from Male, Maldives, arrived at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka at 3:00pm local time, said a top security airport official who confirmed the matter to Dhaka Tribune.
Speaking to Dhaka Tribune, an airport health officer said the Bangladeshi nationals had gone through thermal scanning at the airport.
"They arrived with Covid-19 negative medical certificates and were sent to home quarantine after screening at the airport," he said.
So far, about 1200 Bangladeshis who were undocumented or irregular workers in Maldives have returned home.
The Bangladesh High Commission in Male made the disclosure in an emergency notice, saying more workers will return home within June 5 by three or four flights.
