The Indian government has suspended all existing visas except for diplomatic, official, UN, international organization, employment and project visas.
The suspension will come into affect on March 13 and will remain till April 15.
The decision came at the second meeting of a group of ministers, held on Wednesday at Nirman Bhawan in New Delhi, according to a press statement issued by the Indian Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
The meeting was chaired by Harsh Vardhan, the union minister of health and family welfare.
The statement said visa free travel facility granted to OCI card holders would come into affect from 1200 GMT on March 13, 2020 and would be kept in abeyance till April 15, 2020.
“Any foreign national who intends to travel to India for compelling reason may contact the nearest Indian mission,” the statement said.
“All incoming travellers, including Indian nationals, are advised to avoid non-essential travel and are informed that they can be quarantined for a minimum of 14 days on their arrival in India. Indian nationals are strongly advised to avoid all non-essential travel abroad. On their return, they can be subjected to quarantine for a minimum of 14 days,” the statement further added.
