The Assam chief minister directed the Border Security Force (BSF) on Sunday to set up a control room at Dispur to monitor the Indo-Bangla border area activities from the state capital.
Sarbananda Sonowal issued the directive at a high level review meeting to discuss the progress of border fencing works, infiltration and other security related border issues, held at the Brahmaputra State Guest House in Guwahati.
According to a Chief Ministers’ Office (CMO) statement, Sonowal said a control room equipped with modern technology would come in handy for monitoring border-related issues from Dispur.
“The control room would facilitate containing illegal trade of cattle along the riverine areas of the Dhubri border,” he said.
The BSF officials apprised the chief minister that in adherence to directives from the Union Home Ministry, they have already adopted modern technology for strengthening border security including tackling infiltration along the 61 km riverine areas of the Dhubri border.
They said the entire process would attain completion by September 30.
The BSF also told Sonowal that they would harness advanced technology - such as radar, electro optic sensor, fixed camera and aquatic sensors - for strengthening their border-monitoring activities.
