Pakistani troops on Wednesday fired on Indian Army posts, in a ceasefire breach, along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district of Jammy and Kashmir, reports the NDTV.
According to the Indian website, the Indian Army retaliated and the firing continued as of Wednesday afternoon when this report was filed.
The Express Tribune, a Pakistani newspaper, reported that the firing from the Indian Army injured two students near Batal sector, LoC, on the Pakistan side of Kashmir.
The injured were taken to a local hospital while officials feared the number of injured may increase. The Express Tribune reported that the shelling by Indian Army had begun at 10:20am Pakistan standard time.
The two neighbouring countries had a ceasefire agreement on the LoC that separates Kashmir since 2003, generating a sense of security for the settlements around the snow-capped, mountainous terrain.
However, there have been periodic violations to the ceasefire allegedly by Pakistan in most cases. According to NDTV, earlier, on June 7, a Junior Commissioner Officer in India was killed when Pakistan “opened heavy fire with automatic weapons” on Indian posts.
NDTV reported that an Indian brigadier and two jawans were injured in May, when Pakistani troops allegedly opened fire on Indian positions along the LoC in Jammu and Kashmir. Islamabad has denied the allegations.
