Biden plans to lift Muslim ban on first day in office

The travel ban was one of Trump's signature hardline immigration policies that have been a central part of his presidency and "America First" approach

President-elect Joe Biden plans to lift travel ban on some Muslim majority nations, put in place by Donald Trump, on his first day in the White House.

The travel ban was one of Trump's signature hardline immigration policies that have been a central part of his presidency and "America First" approach.

Trump issued his first version just a week after taking office, though it was quickly halted by the courts.

In June 2017, US President Donald Trump’s order to block arrivals from six mainly Muslim countries took partial effect after he won a Supreme Court victory over rights groups.

In June 2018, the US Supreme Court handed Donald Trump one of the biggest victories of his presidency, upholding his travel ban targeting several Muslim-majority countries.

The planned move to lift travel ban on some Muslim majority is one of four executive orders that Biden has planned for his first day in office, reports the Dawn.

The other three executive actions planned by the president elect are rejoining the Paris Climate Agreement, reinstating the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program and rejoining the World Health Organization.

On Saturday, several US media outlets projected Biden as the winner of the 2020 presidential election.

However, the Trump campaign continues to reject the results and has filed lawsuits in various states, challenging the ballots and the counting process.
