Fewer than 350,000 (4%) votes remain to be counted in North Carolina, as per projections.
With 96% of the votes counted so far, Trump has won 2,732,104 (50.1%) votes and Biden won 2,655,392 (48.7%). Trump is leading by 76,712 till now, according to USA Today report based on AP’s projections.
If Joe Biden wins North Carolina, he will be only the second Democrat to win a presidential race here since 1980, joining Barack Obama. But Republicans have won here every other cycle, including in 2016, when Donald Trump won the state by 3.5% points.
Trump made the full opening of the US economy a centerpiece of his re-election campaign, even as infections continue to rise. Biden has claimed Trump is undeserving of a second term because of his handling of the pandemic, reports Reuters.

In the national exit poll, four out of 10 voters said they thought the effort to contain the virus was going "very badly." In Florida and North Carolina, five of 10 voters said the national response to the pandemic was going "somewhat or very badly."
The poll found that nine out of 10 voters had already decided whom to vote for before October, and nine out of 10 voters said they were confident that their state would accurately count votes.

There are 538 Electoral College votes allotted to the 50 states and the District of Columbia. It takes 270 votes to win.
The latest vote tally showed Democrat challenger Joe Biden with a lead in the Electoral College - 224 votes to 213, with 270 needed for victory - but with counting still to be completed in at least five major “battleground” states: Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin, North Carolina and Georgia.
