Tanjim Siam, a Bangladeshi man who was shot during an armed robbery in Roxbury neighbourhood of Boston, Massachusetts in the US, has died after fighting for his life for 40 days.

Siam, 24, passed away on Saturday at a local hospital where he was on life support for five weeks, reports Boston25 news.

On July 14, Siam, who was a staff member of M&R convenience store located at Shawmut Avenue, was shot in the head during an armed robbery at the store.

When Siam’s family arrived from Bangladesh on August 3, doctors at Boston Medical Centre alerted the family that he would not survive.

Siam’s family made the difficult decision to remove him from life support on Friday and he passed away on Saturday morning.

With aspirations to go to college, he immigrated to the United States from Bangladesh earlier this year with a hope of a better future for him and his family members.

“He came here, in the US, for the dream and that was stolen from him,” said Humayun Morshed, of Boston Convenience Store Association.

“He died with his mom holding his hand,” he told CBS Boston.

On August 7, a 25-year-old man was arrested in connection with the shooting.

Stephon Samuel, was charged with armed robbery by means of a firearm, armed assault with intent to murder, unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, and armed career criminal level one.

According to Boston police, an autopsy will be performed by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner that will determine the cause and manner of death.
