One of the potential candidates for the upcoming London mayoral election is a criminal barrister of British-Bangladeshi descent, representing the Conservative Party -- Mozammel Hossain.
Hossain, along with London Assembly member Susan Hall and former Downing Street aide turned tech entrepreneur Daniel Korski, was chosen by Tory party officials on Sunday to compete for the opportunity to challenge Sadiq Khan, the Labour party mayor, in the City Hall elections scheduled for May, 2024.
However, the potential meeting between the candidates and party Leader Rishi Sunak remained uncertain.
Party officials were expected to set out the ground rules for the upcoming campaign, as the Conservative Party aims to hinder Sadiq Khan's bid for a historic third term as London mayor.
The successful Tory candidate is due to be announced on July 19 after a series of hustings and a ballot of party members.
Mozammel Hossain is the first Bangladeshi-born criminal barrister ever to be appointed Queen's Counsel.
He was born in Barisal and immigrated to the UK in 1995.
He has gained extensive experience handling high-profile cases within the country's legal system, according to the 187 Chambers website.
The Court of Appeal has commended his eloquence and advocacy skills. Hossain is also widely regarded as a “powerful trial advocate.”
