The sister of Sabina Nessa, a British-Bangladeshi woman who was murdered while walking through a part in southeast London Last year has accused British Home Secretary Priti Patel of failing to support female victims of violence, BBC reports.
Sabina Nessa, 28, was killed by a 36-year-old British man named Koci Selamaj, in the Kidbrooke area of southeast London in September, last year.
A British court last week jailed Selamaj for life with a minimum term of 36 years for the murder.
Selamaj, a garage worker from Eastbourne in East Sussex, repeatedly hit Nessa over the head with a metal traffic triangle and then strangled her.
Following the sentencing, British Home Secretary Priti Patel took to twitter to condemn the ‘harrowing and callous’ action of the murderer.
"Sabina Nessa lost her life due to the harrowing and callous actions of a man who's rightly now behind bars,” Patel tweeted.
"While I can't possibly know how Sabina's family and friends are feeling, I hope today's sentence brings them a small comfort, knowing this evil monster has faced justice.
However, Nessa’s sister Jebina Islam responded by criticizing Ms Patel over her “lack of support,” reports BBC.
"You don't know what we as a family are going through and to be honest you haven't even bothered to ask since the death of my sister,” the broadcaster quoted Jebina as saying.
"Lack of support from yourself and Boris Johnson just shows how 'important' it is to tackle male violence to you guys."
The Home Office declined to comment on Jebina’s response.
