The death toll from devastating floods and landslides along the Nepal-Tibet border has risen to 472, with 469 deaths reported in Nepal and three in Tibet, according to authorities.
More than 1,400 people remain missing, including hundreds of foreign nationals.
Rescue operations have been disrupted by the risk of further flooding after a lake formed by a landslide began overflowing near the border.
Authorities have suspended some rescue efforts and urged people in vulnerable areas to move to higher ground.
Chinese Premier Li Qiang visited the disaster-hit area in Tibet on Thursday and called for stronger coordination with foreign governments and relevant parties to account for those still missing. He also urged authorities to provide transparent and timely information on the disaster and rescue efforts.
The disaster struck on Wednesday, August 27, 2026, along the Nepal-Tibet border after a glacial collapse triggered a massive flow of water, ice and debris.
