Myanmar junta airstrikes in Shan State and Mandalay Region over the past two days have killed at least 20 people and injured many others.

Two bombs were dropped on a district hospital run by the ethnic Ta'ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) in Kyaukme, northern Shan State, on Saturday by a junta warplane, The Irrawaddy reported.

On Saturday, a junta warplane dropped two bombs on a district hospital run by the Ta'ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) in Kyaukme, northern Shan State.

The attack claimed the lives of three people, including two female health workers who had joined the civil disobedience movement after the 2021 coup.

More than 20 patients receiving treatment at the hospital sustained severe injuries, with one male patient succumbing to his wounds during evacuation.

“The bombs hit the back of a room where we were meeting,” a survivor told The Irrawaddy.

“My two female colleagues died instantly. I nearly got trapped under the rubble. Many others were badly injured, with fractures and other serious wounds.”

On Sunday, bombing and strafing in Singup village, rural Myingyan Township, Mandalay Region, killed 17 people. Mi-35 gunships strafed near a school, and a junta jet dropped two bombs around 7:30am, local time.

Sixteen people died on the spot, and one more succumbed to injuries later. Among the victims were a visiting couple and their two young children, a four-year-old and an infant. “They’ve been buried,” a resident said.

Nearly all hospital buildings were destroyed in the attack, raising concerns that the hospital was deliberately targeted.

The TNLA had taken control of Kyaukme in August last year during the second phase of the Brotherhood Alliance’s “Operation 1027.”
