US magazine and news website TIME has recently released its list of the world's 50 greatest places of 2022.
Its international network of correspondents and contributors assembled the list with the objective of introducing places offering fresh and thrilling experiences.
The 50 destinations that made the list involve classic popular destinations alongside lesser-known sites. All the locations however cater to contemporary prosperity, economic upswing and sustainable ventures.
Asia-Pacific
India's Kerala and Ahmedabad are among the Asian recommendations, as are the Japanese islands of Setouchi and Kyushu.
The South Korean capital of Seoul is a top pick, as is the Indonesian province of Bali and the central Philippines island of Boracay.
Australia's Great Barrier Reef and the port city of Fremantle both attained nods, as did New Zealand's Queenstown, a centre for adventure sports on South Island.
Bhutan's Trans-Bhutan Trail and the historic Silk Roads of Uzbekistan are two among the lesser-travelled grounds in this year's picks.

TIME recommended the trendy West Coast centres of Portland, Oregon and San Francisco, the Florida coastal chill of Miami, and Michigan's Detroit. The winter skiing spot at Park City, Utah also received a thumbs up in the United States.
In Canada, Ontario capital Toronto and the little surfing town of Tofino, British Columbia, were picked, and deeper in the north, Ilulissat, on Greenland's mainland, opens onto Disko Bay, the "Grand Canyon of the Arctic Circle”.
The admired beach destinations of Jamaica and Mexico's Riviera Nayarit also made the 2022 list.

The city of Salta, in Argentina's mountainous northwest, and the village of El Chaltén, in the country's Los Glaciares National Park, came onto TIME's radar this year.
Two volcanic wonders that made the list are Chile's Rapa Nui – better known as Easter Island – and Ecuador's Galápagos Islands.
Under TIME's urban recommendations are the two lively metropolises of Bogotá, Colombia and São Paulo, Brazil.

In Britain, the rustic allure of the English county of Devon and the town of Portree, on the Scottish Isle of Skye, received the nod this year.
The Western European cities of Marseilles (France), Copenhagen (Denmark), Skellefteå (Sweden) and València (Spain) all received mentions, together with the Italian region of Calabria, the ancient Greek city of Thessaloniki, the Portuguese region of Alentejo and the archipelago of Madeira.
The little Czech ski resort of Dolni Morava and the Lithuanian fortress city of Kaunas made the list, as well as the historic magnificence of the Turkish capital Istanbul.

Qatar and its capital Doha demanded all attention this year, due to the hosting of the World Cup 2022 in December, while the prominent adventure sports destination of Ras Al Khaimah in the United Arab Emirates also made the list.

The Kenyan capital of Nairobi and the Rwandan capital of Kigali are TIME's urban choices from Africa. South Africa's Franschhoek, known for its wineries, and Zambia's Lower Zambezi National Park have also been recommended.
Zimbabwe's Hwange National Park is the final selection from the continent.

For the more adventurous travellers, TIME's 2022 list included the Arctic polar region and the International Space Station, which met the list’s criteria by being in low Earth orbit.
