Before this, no formal Guinness world record existed for the world's largest hot dog

Coney Island establishment Feltman's, a restaurant widely credited with creating hot dogs, has just earned itself a Guinness World Record for a new innovation: making the world's largest one.

Cradled in a 5-foot hot dog bun made by Brooklyn bakery Michael's, the sausage — 5 feet long, 2 feet wide — was made by a New Jersey joint: Union Pork Store, reports USA Today.

Feltman's owner Michael Quinn told UPI that the world's largest hot dog is about 5 feet long and 2 feet wide. In total, it weighs almost 75 pounds.

Before this, no formal Guinness World Record existed for the world's largest hot dog.

Union Pork's proprietor, Leszek ‘Jabi’ Jablonski, was called on by Quinn to create the dog.

"When I called Jabi to ask if he could make the world's largest hot dog, he sounded like he had been waiting for this call for his entire life," Quinn told Bridgewater Courier News.

"Most people would think I was a few croutons short of a Caesar salad, but Jabi sounded like he was being called for the Major Leagues."

A piece of the dog costs $10.

Proceeds go to the Headstrong Project, a nonprofit that works to help veterans with postwar mental-health issues.
