#SayNoToWar trends on Twitter as India-Pakistan tension escalates

Via the platform, public figures and citizens are appealing for peace

Update : 28 Feb 2019, 02:18 PM

As the tensions between the two nuclear-armed states of India and Pakistan intensify, citizens of both countries—along with the peace-loving population of the world—are tweeting for a peaceful end to this high-pressure situation.

As conflict between India and Pakistan escalates, civilians are reacting with anger and fear on different social media platforms.

Celebrities, activists, sportsmen, and citizens are appealing—on Twitter—for a calm and peaceful solution to the high-tension situation with the hashtag #SayNoToWar.

Despite many on Twitter continuing to show their support for air strikes and heavy shelling along the LoC (Line of Control)—by both countries—hundreds of Indian and Pakistani citizens are calling for peace, calm and harmony. They are tweeting that war cannot be a solution to anything.

Different international news organizations are also re-tweeting these, lamenting the loss of lives on both sides of the border.

Tension has been running high since a suicide car bomb attack—by Pakistan-based militants inside Indian-controlled Kashmir— killed at least 40 Indian paramilitary police on February 14.

However, the risk of conflict rose drastically, on Tuesday, when India launched an air strike on Pakistan's territory.

In response, on Wednesday, Pakistan carried out a counter airstrike—in Indian-controlled Kashmir—and shot down two Indian jets in its own airspace. It captured one of the pilots and he is still in Pakistani custody.
