India and the US are set to co-host the Global Entrepreneur Summit (GES) at Hyderabad, from November 28 to 30, which will be led by President Donald Trump’s daughter Ivanka.
Around 1,000 entrepreneurs from across the world will join the conference, including 18 madrasa students among 300 youths, who will be participating in a day-long workshop on entrepreneurship on October 27, reports the Times of India.
The workshop on “Education to Entrepreneurship” is part of the build-up to GES. It has been organised by the US Consulate General in Hyderabad, Hyderabad-based Maulana Azad National Urdu University (MANUU) and the Hyderabad chapter of The Indus Entrepreneurs (TiE).
According to Times of India, this is the first time the workshop on entrepreneurship will include madrasa students among its participants, who will be guided by mentors from TiE.
Zafar Sareshwala, chancellor of MANUU said: “When I heard that GES 2017 was being held in Hyderabad, I approached both US and Niti Aayog authorities with a plan for a workshop. Out of the 300 participants, 18 are madrassa students, who will get an opportunity to interact with business leaders.”
The five best participants will be given an opportunity to intern with world class companies.
Sareshwala said that, provided madrasa students are given the right knowledge, they can transfer their ideas into businesses.
Taslima Nasreen, a mufti from Hyderabad-based Jamiat Ul Mominat madrasa, said: "Exposure at the madrasas is limited to religious subjects and business education is not part of the mandate.”
