Ad-hoc committees declared for nine sports feds, dissolving formers

The sports disciplines are athletics, tennis, hockey, kabaddi, basketball, chess, bridge, squash and billiard & snooker

National Sports Council dissolved the executive committees of nine sports governing bodies and announced ad-hoc committees for each of them following recommendation of the search committee.

The sports disciplines are athletics, tennis, hockey, kabaddi, basketball, chess, bridge, squash and billiard & snooker.

Except hockey, the presidents of these federations were removed around two months ago.

The decision to dissolve nine federations was taken with NSC’s designated power under article 21 of National Sports Council Act 2018, said a statement from the NSC Thursday.

New president and general secretary of nine federations:

Athletics

President: Major General Dr. Naeem Ashfaq Chowdhury, CEO, Prime Bank Foundation

GS: Mohammad Shah Alam, former national athlete and coach

Tennis

President: Abdul Hai Sarkar, chairman, Dhaka Bank

GS: Ishtiaq Ahmed, former player and director of Shelter Architects & Engineers Ltd 

Hockey

President: Air Chief Marshal Hasan Mahmood Khan, Chief of Bangladesh Air Force

GS: Lt. Colonel Riazul Hasan (retd), former player

Kabaddi

President: Mohammad Mainul Islam, Inspector General of Police

GS: SM Newaz Shohag, businessman and sports organizer

Basketball

President: Shamim Newaz, doctor and former national player

GS: Major Mohammad Atiqul Hafiz (retd), former player and coach

Chess

President: Syed Suja Uddin Ahmed, former player and sports organizer

GS: Dr Tayabur Rahman Suman, FIDE Master

Bridge

President: Syed Mahbubur Rahman, MD, Mutual Trust Bank Ltd

GS: Naimul Hasan, Deputy MD, Hasan & Associates

Squash

President: Major General Mohammad Hasan Uz Zaman
