Samiul Islam Rafi continued his fine form in the Max Group 33rd National Swimming, Diving & Water Polo Championship 2024 as the Bangladesh Navy swimmer set two more national records at Syed Nazrul Islam National Swimming Complex in Mirpur Sunday.
After breaking his own 50m backstroke record on the opening day, Rafi recorded two more feats on the second day.
In the men's 200m individual medley, Rafi broke Kajol Mia's last year's record.
Rafi took 02.09:99 to touch finishing line while the previous record was 02.10:77.
This time, Kajol placed second with 02.14:33.
Rafi also broke his own record which he set last year in the men's 200m backstroke event.
The 19-year old clocked 02.10:87 to replace his old record of 02.11:86.
Second-placed Amirul Islam Joy was far behind him with 02.19:64 timing.
Bangladesh Army swimmer Romana Akter also set another national record in the women's 200m breaststroke event as she clocked 02.51:35 to break the previous record of 02.51:90 which Romana herself recorded in 2016.
Bangladesh's Paris Olympian Rafi and Sonia Akter both claimed four golds each after the end of day two as Navy top the table with 17 gold, 13 silver and six bronze medals.
