Kamrun Nahar Koly wrote history for Bangladesh Saturday as she became the first shooter from the country to make the last eight of the ISSF World Cup, currently taking place in Jakarta, Indonesia.

No male or female shooter from Bangladesh managed to reach such stage of a World Cup before, which is also considered finals of the competition, a federation official told Dhaka Tribune.

Koly finished sixth out of total 53 participants in the qualification round with a score of 628.4 points to achieve the feat.

The last-eight tie, also called ranking match, was also held on the same day where the 22-year old finished eighth.

Eszter Meszaros of Hungary defeated Aneta Stankiewicz of Poland in the gold medal match to win the title.

It was only the fourth international event for Koly, who began her career at Narayanganj Rifles Club before moving to Bangladesh Navy on contract.

For Koly, 2022 was her breakthrough year as she finished 14th in the World Championship in Cairo, Egypt in October with a score of 629, which was highest by any Bangladeshi.

She also finished fourth in the Asian Air Gun Championship at the same place the following month.

The best achievement by a Bangladeshi at the World Cup was previously held by Abdullah Hel Baki after he placed ninth in Delhi 2017.
