The Yonex-Sunrise Bangladesh Junior International Badminton Series 2019 got underway Wednesday at Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Indoor Stadium in Dhaka.
A total of 24 men’s, women’s singles and doubles and mixed team events took place on the opening day as local shuttler Lokman beat India’s Sai Pruthbi Saranam by 19-21, 24-22 and 21-17 points to qualify for the pre-quarterfinal.
In the mixed team event, Bangladesh’s Sibgat and Urmi pair beat Nepal’s Deb Raj Rana and Jessica Gurung by 2-0 sets (21-9, 21-17) to advance to the pre-quarterfinal.
Sibgat and his compatriot Maruf also progressed to the pre-quarterfinal in the men’s singles after beating countrymen Anwar and Jayed bin Joynal 2-0 respectively.

In the women’s doubles, Thailand’s Jiyantanet and Sudchoyechom beat Bangladesh’s Rahima and Nasima 2-0 while in the women’s singles, India’s Adhaya Prasar and her compatriot Likhita Sribastob beat Bangladesh’s Antara and Jessica 2-0 respectively.
Among other results in the men’s singles, Malaysia’s Jhen Ye Ong beat Bangladesh’s Gurav Singh 2-0, Yon Yogen defeated Bangladesh’s Habibur Rahman 2-0, Fazrik Mohammad beat Bangladesh’s Mamun Hossain 2-0, Justin Ho defeated Bangladesh’s Sowad 2-0, Ken Yong beat Bangladesh’s Jahid Bappy 2-0, Chong E Jack defeated Bangladesh’s Mangal Singh 2-0, Thailand’s Arnik beat Bangladesh’s Nazmul Joy 2-0, Rana beat Bangladesh’s Rahman Dhali 2-0, India’s Harsha Jetti defeated Bangladesh’s Shanto 2-0, Bikash beat Bangladesh’s Shawkat Hossain 2-0 and Bangladesh’s Maruf Mia Badhon defeated Joynal 2-0.
Among other results in the mixed team event, Malaysia’s Be Chun and Cheng Su Hui beat Bangladesh’s Joy and Hasina 2-0, Go Boon and Cheng Su In defeated Bangladesh’s Shawkat and Tuli 2-0, Chong E Jack and Ung Kia beat Bangladesh’s Gourav and Farbin 2-0, Ken Yong and Jhing Ye defeated Bangladesh’s Mangal and Sathi 2-0, Bangladesh’s Lokman and Lika Poddar beat compatriots Mamun and Jerin 2-1, Nepal’s Prince Dahal and Rasila beat Akib and Urmi 2-0 and Thailand’s Thirapanitanun and Sudchoyesom defeated Bangladesh’s Soud and Antara 2-0 to move to the last eight.
