Budding motor racer Aiman Sadat made a memorable feat in his debut participation in an international event as the 16-year old raced through to the Junior Cup title in the Volkswagen Ameo Cup 2019, which concluded at Madras Motor Race Track in Chennai this week.

“Those who participate in the race first time and aged below 25 are eligible for the Junior Cup. I made two podium finishes in the 11 combined races in the 2019 season but among the juniors, I finished first in nine races and second in two races and thus became junior champion,” said Aiman Thursday.

The feat allowed Aiman an opportunity to take part in next season’s Ameo Cup free of cost.

Aiman scored a total of 526 points in 11 races while second-placed Kaushik Mohan Raja was distinctly left behind with a score of 433.

Aiman finished seventh in the combined race out of a total of 17 participants, while another Bangladeshi racer Avik Anwar, whose car broke down during the last two races, finished eighth in his third attempt in the competition.

Aiman’s first mentor and inspiration is his elder brother Affan Sadat who participated in the same racing event in the last two editions, but is currently in Canada where he recently clinched third spot in Race 2 of the Production Racing Car Championship.

“There was no actual practice opportunity here at home but only simulator which was bought for my brother in 2017 and technically helped me to prepare for the race. It’s like a dream fulfilled after winning the Junior Cup. Now my only focus is to do better in the next Ameo Cup,” Aiman added.
