The training camp of the national swimming team, ahead of the next South Asian Games, began at the Syed Nazrul Islam National Swimming Complex in Mirpur.

A total of 20 athletes including ten male and ten female swimmers were selected for the preliminary camp that began on November 1 under the guidance of coach Mahbubur Rahman.

Eight swimmers were picked up through a talent hunt programme, seven were from the Bangladesh Navy and five were from the Army.

The 13th South Asian Games was earlier scheduled to be held at Nepal in March next year but is likely to be deferred to the latter half of the year.

Mahfuza Khatun Shila, who won Bangladesh a couple of gold medals in the previous edition held in Shillong and Guwahati at India in 2016, is included in the camp along with Mahfizur Rahman Sagor, Sonia Akter Tumpa and Asian Games 2018 debutant Khadiza Akter.
