Commonwealth Games silver medalists Baki, Shakil rewarded

Commonwealth Games silver medalists Abdullah Hel Baki and Shakil Ahmed each received Tk5 lakhs for their brilliant performance in Gold Coast, Australia last month. The Bangladesh Olympic Association had earlier promised monetary rewards for the athletes who clinch medals at the latest Commonwealth Games, with a gold fetching Tk10 lakhs, silver Tk5 lakhs and bronze Tk3 lakhs.

And BOA stayed true to its promise as Baki and Shakil were each rewarded Tk5 lakhs Sunday by BOA president and Bangladesh Army Chief of Staff General Abu Belal Muhammad Shafiul Huq. Baki had claimed silver in the 10m air-rifle event while Shakil finished second in the 50m pistol category. Baki said, "We thank the BOA for the rewards. This kind of initiative will certainly inspire us to bring laurels for the country in future.
