Bangladesh women’s hockey team finished eighth at the Hockey five-a-side Asia Cup after losing to Chinese Taipei 8-5 in the place deciding match in Salalah, Oman.

The girls in red and green defeated the same opponents in the group stage but could not carry the same momentum in the last encounter.

They held Chinese Taipei to 4-4 in the first half but failed to continue the rhythm after the break.
Orpita Pal scored four goals while Airin Riya added the other for Bangladesh.

Bangladesh earlier lost to Hong Kong by 10-7 in their last group match Sunday with Orpita scoring three times.

They however managed three wins in the previous three matches against Oman (9-2), Iran (9-3) and Chinese Taipei (10-5) after beginning the campaign with a 7-4 defeat to Indonesia.

Orpita and Riya exhibited outstanding performance throughout the competition as the attacking duo scored a combined total of 36 goals.

Orpita slammed 20 goals while Riya netted 16 goals in only six ties.

It was Bangladesh women’s hockey team’s first participation in the international arena after a gap of around four years.
