Oman U-21 hockey team finally won a match but Bangladesh U-21 still finished well ahead, clinching the five-game Test series 3-1 at Maulana Bhasani National Stadium in Dhaka Tuesday.

Oman won 4-3 in the fifth match, however, it was nothing but a consolation victory as Bangladesh had already clinched the series.

The first quarter ended goalless before Oman took the lead in the 29th minute from a penalty corner by captain Rashed al Fazari.

Bangladesh soon equalized from a penalty corner by Ashraful Islam.

The home side then took the lead in the 34th minute from a field goal by skipper Mahbub Hossain before Akram Bath Shamaiya brought parity in the 40th minute from a penalty stroke.

Oman went ahead in the 49th minute through Adnan al Hasani’s field goal before extending their lead in the 55th minute from yet another field goal by Hussain Baith Faraz.

Bangladesh reduced the arrears at the hour mark from a penalty corner by Ashraful as the game eventually ended 4-3 in favor of Oman.

The home side won the first match 5-1 on October 8 before being held to a 2-2 draw a day later.

Bangladesh then claimed the third and fourth game 2-0 and 4-1 on October 11 and 12 respectively.

All the matches were held at Maulana Bhasani National Stadium.

The series served as preparation for Bangladesh ahead of the Bangabandhu Junior Asia Cup 2020, scheduled to be held in Dhaka.

Following yesterday’s game, Bangladesh U-21 head coach Mamunur Rashid hoped for more friendly matches in the near future, which he thinks will stand them in good stead for the Junior Asia Cup.
