Bangladesh U-21 women’s hockey team clinched their first ever international win in their debut participation at the Air Asia Women’s Junior (U-21) AHF Cup 2019 as they beat Sri Lanka 2-0 in their second group stage match in Singapore Tuesday.
This is also the first international win for a Bangladesh women's hockey team at any level.
Bangladesh women, who made their international debut in this tournament, rectified their mistakes from the first game where they conceded a 3-0 defeat against the host Monday.
Despite the loss, head coach Mohammad Tariquzzaman kept the starting eleven unchanged and his charges honored him with a good show.
Tarin Akter Khushi created history in the 27th minute when she scored the first ever international goal for the women’s U-21 team by converting a penalty corner successfully.

Fardia Akter Ratry doubled the lead in the 58th minute, also from a penalty corner.
“I never thought I would have scored (first international goal). We showed good attacking instinct and earned some penalty corners, some of which I couldn’t convert before the goal. I will try to get more goals in the next matches,” said an elated Tarin after the game.
Bangladesh will take on Hong Kong Thursday before facing Uzbekistan and Chinese Taipei Saturday and Sunday respectively.
The round-robin based tournament will conclude Sunday after which the top two finishers will qualify for the final round, scheduled to be held in India next year.
