Rajshahi maintain Youth Games dominance

Rajshahi maintained the lead at the top of the medal tally, highlighted by their triumph in the boys’ football event. Chittagong are only two gold medals behind the leader, and also ensured golds in three team events in men's kabaddi, handball, and girls’ volleyball. The finals of the other team events were also held on the fifth day of the mega event where Khulna won gold in girls’ hockey and boys’ volleyball while Rangpur became champion in boys’ hockey and kabaddi and Mymensingh clinched gold in girls’ kabaddi.HockeyKhulna and Rangpur became champion in the girls' and boys' hockey event accordingly after winning their respective finals at Maulana Bhasani National Hockey Stadium in Dhaka Wednesday. Khulna earned a comfortable 4-1 win over Dhaka while Rangpur came back from a two-goal deficit to beat Rajshahi 4-3 in a dramatic final. Ananya Biswas netted a brace while captain Nadira and Namita Karmakar added one apiece. Ananya, who was adjudged best player of the final, said after the match, "I played for Jhenidah in the national women's championship in 2016 where we finished champion. I also scored in the final there. National women's hockey team should be formed and I want to play in the Olympics."Both finalists in the boys' hockey have a number of players who played in the premier division hockey league with Rangpur having seven representatives and Rajshahi six. Moksedur scored three for Rangpur while Subrata added the other. Rakibul, Sarower and Morshed netted one each for Rajshahi. Meanwhile, Chittagong took bronze after beating Dhaka 11-0 in the third-place decider.HandballChittagong, riding on the players of the Hill Tracts, clinched gold in the boys' handball event after handing Mymensingh a big 23-8 defeat in the final at M Mansur Ali National Handball Stadium in the afternoon.
