Of local coaches and Real Madrid Foundation

Update : 30 Oct 2014, 10:00 PM

Upon receiving his certificate from the Real Madrid Foundation, one of the world’s leading football nurseries, sexagenarian Musa was no doubt delighted as he managed to acquire priceless coaching methods and techniques. Participating in an ongoing three-day training camp in Chittagong, Musa and 29 other lucky coaches from Bangladesh have been afforded the opportunity to learn their trade from three coaches belonging to one of the world’s best football institutions.

Real Madrid Foundation head coach and Team Camps technical director Pablo Gomez Revenga is conducting the training camp alongside his two colleagues Javier Garcia Torres and Rafael Palacios Peinado.

The training camp, titled “YKK Asia Group Kids Football Clinic”, got underway yesterday at MA Aziz Stadium and has been organised with the joint initiatives of two Japanese companies - YKK Holding Asia Private Limited and YKK Bangladesh Private Limited – and the Bangladesh Football Federation. With an eye towards developing football skills among youngsters and enhancing the local coaches’ understanding of the beautiful game, the training camp will also teach 300 underprivileged children, aged between 10-14, on the modern tactics of football.

Following the conclusion of the training camp’s opening day, the head coach of Real Madrid Foundation informed that the local coaches here have a lot of potential that will require nursing in order to succeed.

Revenga went on to say Bangladesh has a bright future in the game as long as the footballers play under the supervision of brilliant and creative coaches.

While briefing the media, Revenga also said they want to come up with another camp like this two years later if they succeed in their efforts.

Torres, meanwhile, mentioned that players who think their football careers are over after hanging up their boots are wrong. Torres said the retired footballers have the option of implementing their own football philosophy in coaching following the end of their playing career. The Spaniard cited Musa as an example.

After completing the theoretical and practical training session from 3pm-5:30pm, local coach Masud Parvez Kaiser stated that this type of initiative can only improve their coaching style. Kaiser also said, “Besides, we also learned European warm-up and practice methods that are multi-dimensional and different from us.”

Following the training session, certificates were handed out to the 30 coaches. The training of the 300 underprivileged children will take place today morning.

This kind of training camp is being held for the first time in the port city. YKK, however, has the previous experience of organising two similar training camps in the country.
