Update : 04 Aug 2017, 08:38 AM
Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club registered their second consecutive victory in the Bangladesh Premier Football League after edging Team BJMC 1-0 at the water-logged Bangabandhu National Stadium on Thursday. Sheikh Jamal changed their foreign recruits in the starting XI with Raphael Odoyin and Solomon King getting the nod ahead of Gambian attacker Momodou Ba. Raphael created the first scoring chance of the game seven minutes into the clock but Team BJMC goalkeeper Shohag Hossain Palash denied the Nigerian striker with a decent save. In the 20th minute, Team BJMC forward Mohammad Shariful danced down the left flank to enter the penalty area before taking a low left-footer that went straight into the hands of Sheikh Jamal keeper Mitul.Team BJMC custodian Palash continued his fine display between the posts as he produced another outstanding save in the 39th minute and this time, Raphael was again on the other side. Solomon set up Raphael with a defence-splitting through pass, the latter broke into the penalty area leaving his markers behind but Palash dived to his right to deny the Nigerian’s effort. Nurul Absar gave the Dhanmondi outfit the deserved lead nine minutes into the second half. A low cross from Ali Hossain found the unmarked Nurul at the edge of the six-yard box. Nurul then placed home with a left-footed side volley. Palash made another amazing save in the 83rd minute. Substitute winger Momodou’s intial strike changed its direction towards goal after a deflection from Cameroonian defender Bayback Esaie but the Team BJMC netminder stretched to his top right to tip away for a corner.Meanwhile, big-spending Chittagong Abahani Limited also continued their winning streak as they defeated traditional crowd-puller Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited with the same margin of 1-0 in the day’s second match at the same venue. After the opening half ended goalless, national forward Tawhidul Alam Sabuj netted the all-important goal in the 68th minute following a goal-mouth scramble. Midfielder Mohammad Sohel Rana’s initial shot from the top of the box rebounded off before landing in front of Sabuj. Both the sides were reduced to 10 men in the 85th minute as referee Mizanur Rahman showed red cards to Chittagong Abahani winger Zahid Hossain and Mohammedan midfielder Faisal Mahmud.RESULTSSheikh Jamal 1 (Nurul 54) 0 Team BJMCChittagong Abahani 1 (Sabuj 68) 0 Mohammedan
