Leicester City’s British-Bengali footballer Hamza Choudhury has now got his Bangladesh passport and is closer to playing for the Men in Red and Green sooner than ever.
Bangladesh Football Federation’s general secretary Imran Hossain Tushar said they have requested English Football Association for No Objection Certificate to move to the next step.
“We knew his passport was ready,” Imran told reporters.
He added: “His parents received the passport from the embassy. We are confirmed that he got the passport.
“He (Hamza) gave us a NOC that his is interested to play for Bangladesh. With that NOC, we sent our letter to English FA and asked for NOC so that he can play for Bangladesh.”
Hamza applied for Bangladeshi passport in early June in a bid to begin his new journey in red and green jersey after agreeing in principle earlier this year.
As Hamza had represented England in youth level, BFF required NOC from Football Association.
The BFF GS said: “If we get NOC from FA, we will seek permission from FIFA’s players’ status committee.”
Born and raised in the United Kingdom, Hamza also has Bangladeshi heritage as his mother hails from Sylhet division.
