Skipper Sabina Khatun slammed a sensational strike that helped Bangladesh women’s football team secure their first point on Asian Games debut campaign as they played out a 1-1 draw with Nepal in their final group match in Hangzhou, China Thursday.
Both the South Asian sides however, had already seen the exit door after losing to Japan and Vietnam in the first two Group D fixtures and concluded the competition with a consolation point.
Bangladesh, the reigning SAFF Championship champions, never participated at the Asiad before and the effects of big-margin defeats against the two World Cup-playing nations showed on the faces of players during the game.
A minute prior to the half-time whistle, Sabina gave her side the lead with a magnificent curled shot from outside the box before Rekha Poudel leveled the margin in the 83rd minute.
The two familiar foes had also faced each other twice in July and both ended in draws.
RESULT
Bangladesh 1 (Sabina 44) 1 Nepal (Rekha 83)
