Prolific Bangladesh striker Sabina Khatun has been in red-hot form in the 2022 Saff Championship, netting eight goals in four games, including two hat-tricks, as the unbeaten women in red and green swept into Monday’s final against hosts Nepal.
The Bangladesh captain bagged a brace against Maldives before scoring a hat-trick against Pakistan, and repeating the feat against Bhutan in the semi-final.
The Bengal Tigresses have never beaten Nepal in eight previous meetings with the Himalayan nation winning six times and the other two matches ending in draw so it will be imperative for the tournament’s highest scorer to be in goal-scoring touch if Bangladesh are to claim their maiden Saff title.
Scorer of 32 international goals, the 28-year old will also be a woman on a mission as she has never scored against Nepal in the history of the Saff Championship.
Sabina, who scored three in the 2010 edition, three in 2014, seven in 2016 and one in 2019, will no doubt be desperate to end the drought against Nepal and inspire her side to victory in their second Saff final after the 2016 heartbreak against India.
