Bangladesh continued their upward graph in the Fifa rankings as they climbed two steps to reach 152nd in the latest edition of the rankings updated yesterday. Bangladesh stood 154th in last month’s ranking. From the South Asian region only Afghanistan (149) and India (147) are ranked above Bangladesh. Despite not playing at all since March, the men in Red and Green also rose in the Asian rankings. With a total of 161 points, Bangladesh are now placed 28th, two places above their last standing. Bangladesh were ranked 169th in the month of February, but they jumped up the table (157th) in March following wins over Nepal and Mariana Islands in the AFC Challenge Cup qualifiers held in Nepal. They maintained their progress and remained 154th during April and May. Bangladesh’s next big assignment is the Saff Championship scheduled to be played in September. They are expected to play three or four friendly matches before Saff football kicks-off. Japan (32) are the highest Asian ranked nation followed by South Korea (40) and Australia (47).
