Jamie Day, the Bangladesh head coach, put up a proposal of a three-month Super League at the end of the year if the postponed Bangladesh Premier League doesn’t resume in time due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The English coach, who has been quarantined in London, sent the proposal titled Bangladesh Super League along with the formats and key regulations to the Bangladesh Football Federation Monday.
The initial schedule of the tournament is set for September to November with the 13 top-flight clubs playing each other once at home and away in five different venues before the semi-finals and final takes place in December.
“I have proposed a Super League for three months for the BFF to consider starting in September so we have some football. Then this breaks the time up before a new season can start next year,” Day told Dhaka Tribune Tuesday.
“It is a new competition to replace the league if it’s cancelled so teams can play for a trophy which can be concluded. It's a mini league that might be exciting to watch for a small period and keeps the players and clubs playing some matches.”
Day admitted that financial condition of the clubs would make it difficult to keep the foreign players, which in turn would help develop the local players and give them more opportunities.

“I would prefer local players (for BSL) and I think clubs won’t be able to afford foreign players but I think one or two is acceptable,” added Day, who joined Bangladesh in May, 2018 and is close to a new deal with the BFF that would see him extend his job for two more years.
Only six rounds of the BPL fixtures out of a total of 26 rolled on the pitch until March 15 before being suspended for indefinite period.
Many clubs are almost certain that the league would be cancelled and start afresh next year.
Day also thinks that the league will be called off this season.
“I would like some form of football to possibly start towards the end of the year provided everything is safe. I don't believe we can just postpone till next year. I also don’t think it [BSL] will happen because of the situation but I proposed it,” said Day.
When asked if the BSL could be included in BFF’s annual calendar, Day replied, “No, I think it's just for this year to try help the situation. It’s a good idea but it depends on the clubs also liking the idea.”
