Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Pratishthan women’s team retained the title of the Subrata Mukherji Cup U-17 International Football Tournament through an unbeaten campaign that concluded last week.
The team returned home Wednesday night.
Holder BKSP defeated India’s St Joseph International School 1-0 in a hard-fought final at Ambedkar Stadium in New Delhi.
A total of 32 women’s teams from different states of India took part in the event where Bangladesh’s lone scorer in the final was adjudged the best player of the tournament after netting five goals.
Head coach Joya Chakma, who became the best coach of the event for the second time in a row, informed that the toughest challenge her girls faced was against Sports Authority of India women’s team in the semi-final.
BKSP won the game 5-4 in the sudden death of the tie-breaker after Ratna scored the equaliser 30 seconds before the final whistle of regular time.
The first game against Chhattisgarh state women’s team was also a close one where BKSP came back from a one-goal deficit in the 30-minute half-time to win 3-2.
They defeated Mizoram and Uttarakhand state team in the other group matches before outplaying West Bengal women’s team 7-0.
This is the third time BKSP represented Bangladesh in the tournament.
They reached the quarter-final in their first appearance in 2016, the same year BKSP women’s football team were formed.
Joya also informed that she has 15 booters in the Subrata Cup squad out of a total of 16 who are aged below 15.
Currently there are eight female players at the national women’s football camp at BFF who are BKSP students and as many as six of them were part of the latest champion’s team.
