Arambagh Krira Sangha handed title favourite Saif Sporting Club a shocking 2-0 defeat in the third quarter-final of the Walton U-18 Football Championship at Bangabandhu National Stadium in Dhaka Monday. In the process, Arambagh joined Brothers Union and Farashganj Sporting Club in the last four.
The first half ended goalless but Arambagh stunned Saif Sporting eight minutes into the second half as Shakil Ahmed gave his side the lead. Mohammad Fahim Uddin Sohel made it 2-0 when he netted in the first minute of injury time.
Earlier Saturday at the same venue, Brothers edged powerhouse Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited 1-0 in the first quarter-final while in the second last-eight clash, Farashganj pipped Team BJMC by the same scoreline a day later.
Lt. Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club and Abahani Limited will face off against each other in the last quarter-final today. The semi-finals will be held Thursday and Friday respectively. The final will take place Sunday.
The champion will receive Tk5 lakhs while the runners-up side will pocket Tk3 lakhs. Each side will also get Tk2 lakhs as participation money.
With the participation of 12 top-flight clubs, the tournament, powered by Premier Bank got underway on April 26 this year.
