Srimoti Krishna Rani Sarkar is not only the captain of the Bangladesh U-16 football team but also the latest celebrity in the country’s sports arena. Krishna has taken Bangladesh football to a new level on the international stage. Dhaka Tribune traces the story of how she became the queen of Bangladesh football from humble origins in a remote village in Tangail. Krishna, also the current captain of the U-19 team, is also a dependable forward who strikes fear in the heart of the opposition defenders. Due to her age she was not in the U-15 team which won the Saff U-15 Championship recently. But she also deserves credit for this success. Besides being a footballer, Krishna is a student of standard 10 at Suti VM Pilot High Model School in Gopalpur, Tangail. She has to be in Dhaka all year round to take part in the national camps. She occasionally comes home during vacation. Krishna returned to her village right after the Saff U-15 Championship ended. She was seen at her school playing with her classmates on the field. Some students were asking for autographs from her, which she duly obliged with a broad smile on her face.
