Can the traditional light-green outfit Kalabagan KC survive the Dhaka Premier League relegation scare? Will Partex SC also be relegated in their first season in the top-flight like Old DOHS? All answers will be known by today evening as the bottom lurkers, Kalabagan and Partex, with three wins each from 12 games, lock horns in a do-or-die match at the BKSP-3 ground.
Old DOHS, who were promoted from first division in the previous season, lost all 13 matches in the league to dig their own way back to the lower tier. The losing side from the match today will join DOHS in the first division.
Led by Shamsur Rahman, Kalabagan edge Partex in terms of strength but one cannot rule out any possibilities of the latter who are boosted by the experience of discarded national players Rajin Saleh and Mehrab Hossain Jr. Shahadat Hossain and Abdur Razzak will be key to the Kalabagan bowling unit while Zimbabwean all-rounder Elton Chigumbura’s contribution should be vital.
Meanwhile, the super league stage will start from this Wednesday with the intense fixture between rivals Abahani Ltd and Mohammedan SC. Abahani and Prime Bank CC both have 18 points from nine wins although the Sky Blues sit top of the table with a better net run-rate.
Prime Bank will also take the field on the same day against Shakib al Hasan’s Legends of Rupganj while Victoria SC take on Kalabagan Cricket Academy.
The super league promises to be a special one for the cricketers as the importance of it increased many folds with the World Cup knocking at the door. 25 cricketers from the Tigers’ World Cup preliminary squad will take part in the super league with the selectors closely monitoring the players’ performance before making the final squad which will be submitted to the ICC in the first week of January.
