Cricket board busy handling cases at the wrong time

Update : 19 Dec 2014, 09:02 PM

Ever since the departure of former Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president AHM Mostofa Kamal, cricket’s governing body in the country has been busy dealing with several cases.

Ever since Kamal let go of his responsibilities on October 17, 2012, at least six cases have been filed involving the BCB. During this period, the board hosted the Asia Cup and 2014 ICC World Twenty20 with next year’s 50-over World Cup also knocking at the door.

At a time when the board should be busy with their preparations for the mega event, headlines are being created off the field for all the wrong reasons.

The first case was filed just after Kamal had left the post. The tour of Pakistan was then dominating the limelight and the matter was eventually dragged into the High Court before its resolution.

The most recent case was that involving national paceman Rubel Hossain and film actress Naznin Akter Happy. Happy accused Rubel of sexual harassment and filed a case under the Women and Children Repression Act.

In recent times, a total of three cases were filed by Legends of Rupganj owner Lutfur Rahman Badal and the BCB. While Badal filed a case against cricketer Nurul Hasan, the BCB’s security wing chief, Major (retd) Hossain Imam filed an attempt to murder case against Badal.

When asked to describe why cases involving the BCB were piling up, BCB game development chairman Khaled Mahmud informed that it was totally unexpected.

The former captain also informed that he had no idea over the case against Badal. “Actually I have no idea who attacked whom but Lutfur also filed a case against an emerging cricketer which should not have happened.”
