Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib al Hasan in likely to be available for his second season in the Australian Big Bash League as Bangladesh cricket Board president Nazmul Hasan said the ban on his NOC (No Objection Certificate) from playing the overseas leagues will be lifted by today.
“The decision is not yet taken but I think we will get that by tomorrow (today). Our board meeting will take place after few more days and I have talked with Shakib today (yesterday), the Big Bash league will be starting within two or three days and if he is not available by this time then it will be tough for him to find a team. Whatever the decision is, it will be signed by tomorrow (today) as I will be going abroad today (yesterday) and return day after tomorrow. As we are not taking the decision on a board meeting and when I return to Bangladesh I will announce that on airport,” said Nazmul at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium yesterday before adding that he wants to reveal the decision in presence of all the board members as they were a part while taking the decision to ban earlier.
Shakib’s six-month ban, starting from July 7, from playing any form of cricket was earlier reduced to three months. However, since his return Shakib proved his ability on the field, becoming the man of the series in the Test series againt Zimbabwe, while his behaviour, a reason behind his ban, also seemed appropriate.
Nazmul also added that the board tried to make the Dhaka Premier League (DPL) fruitful and was successful in convincing the clubs to continue the league without the participation of the national cricketers.
The BCB president said the national team should be given the top most preference and the blooming cricketers like Taijul Islam, Taskin Ahmed and Jubair Ahmed are also doing well which made the clubs more interested in getting their service.
Meanwhile, it was learnt former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly is likely to join the Bangladesh team as their batting consultant during the upcoming World Cup, though Nazmul confirmed there is no chance for the Indian legend to join the team at the moment.
