The suspension imposed by the International Cricket Council (ICC) upon Bangladesh off-spinner Sohag Gazi due to an illegal bowling action has not stopped producing one twist after another ever since it was sanctioned last Wednesday.
According to sources, an observatory report on Gazi sent to the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) by the ICC yesterday apparently showed footage of another Bangladesh cricketer Mahmudullah instead of the former.
This raised questions as to why Mahmudullah’s footage was sent and that whether the decision of suspending Gazi due to an illegal bowling might have initiated from the footage of Mahmudullah. Or was it simply a misunderstanding on behalf of the ICC.
One influential BCB director requesting anonymity confirmed to Dhaka Tribune yesterday that the BCB had indeed received the confusing ICC email.
“Yes, the board’s CEO (Nizamuddin Chowdhury) has received an email today (yesterday) and it is also true that the email had footage of Riyad (Mahmudullah) attached to it,” said the BCB high-up.
He went on to clarify that Mahmudullah’s footage was simply a clerical mistake by the ICC and that it had not mattered in Gazi’s suspension.
