Bangladesh A stage extreme slow batting

Update : 15 Sep 2014, 07:57 PM

The Bangladesh A team batsmen exhibited immense patience in occupying the crease as the hosts added only 132 runs on the second day of the first four-day game against Zimbabwe A at Sheikh Kamal International Cricket Stadium yesterday.

Resuming the day on 30 for no loss, the run rate moved at a snail’s pace as Bangladesh posted 162 for 3 in 92 overs, still 44 runs behind Zimbabwe who made 206 in their first innings.

The young opening pair added 76, with Liton Das adding 31 to his overnight score to get out on 54. The wicketkeeper-batsman struck six fours and was the only batsman with a strike rate of over 50. All the others had a strike rate below 30.

The other opening batsman Sadman Islam scored 40 off 179 balls while Marshal Ayub made 20 off 83 balls to frustrate the Zimbabwean bowlers. Rokibul Hasan and skipper Naeem Islam were the unbeaten batsmen at stumps.

Rokibul faced 114 deliveries to score 16 while Naeem saw off 86 deliveries to make 17, showing a rare example of patient batting. Tinotenda Mutombodzi scalped two for 27 for the visitors.

Earlier Bangladesh A bundled out their East African counterpart for 206 in the first innings thanks to a Saqlain Sajib’s record haul of 9-82.
