Bangladesh paceman Rubel Hossain will replace fellow pacer Al Amin Hossain in the upcoming 17th Asian Games in Incheon, South Korea after the latter’s bowling action was recently called into question by the International Cricket Council. Al Amin will now have to undergo tests on his bowling action within 21 days of being reported.
“Rubel is most likely to replace Al Amin,” chief selector Faruk Ahmed told Dhaka Tribune yesterday. “We do not have enough choices as we have only three fast bowlers available from the 30-member squad.”
It has now been confirmed that Rubel will take part in the upcoming Asiad alongside two other pace bowlers - skipper Mashrafe bin Mortaza and youngster Taskin Ahmed.
It was also learned that Al Amin will be featuring in the second and final Test against the West Indies starting from today. Questions had recently arisen that the 24-year old bowler might not play the second Test as he is supposed to undergo tests on his action within 21 days.
This was the second time that a Bangladesh bowler was reported for a suspect action. Off-spinner Sohag Gazi was the first to receive the objection from cricket’s governing body after the conclusion of the second ODI. Al Amin on the other hand was reported after the 10-wicket defeat in the first Test of the ongoing West Indies tour.
Gazi will undergo tests on his bowling action at the Metropolitan University in Cardiff on September 19 and it was decided that all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan will be replacing him after the Bangladesh Cricket Board reduced his six-month suspension to three months.
