The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) from now on will closely monitor the divisional cricket bodies responsible for the development of the game in the 64 districts of the country.
BCB president Nazmul Hasan, during the “ground maintenance equipment distribution” programme at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium yesterday, vowed to take necessary measures against the respective zonal bodies if found not carrying the development work properly.
After taking the helm last year, Nazmul’s board has mostly been busy revamping the infrastructure of stadiums for the ICC World Twenty20 in March this year, and now the BCB chief wants to concentrate on developing the game in the grass-root level by providing support to all 64 districts.
Through yesterday’s programme, BCB handed over grass cutting machines, pitch covers, boundary ropes, pitch rollers and cricket kits to officials of 39 districts while the remaining 25 district’s officials had already received the instruments earlier.
“Now we will keep an eye on each of the districts. We will monitor which district is actually doing something for the development of cricket and which is not. If there are people who have not done anything for the district even after getting benefits, then we will definitely do something about that,” said Nazmul.
“We have been busy with the World Cup, building stadiums and other things. However, now we have the time and hence today’s (yesterday’s) programme. There were many things missing for development in different districts. And starting from grass cutters, we have handed over the required instruments including cricket kits,” he said.
“Today (yesterday) we provided instruments to the officials of 39 districts while 25 districts have already received them earlier. Our basic objective is to make cricket more popular throughout Bangladesh. The more we popularise cricket in the villages and other areas, the more players we will get,” he added.
