Bangladesh have made significant improvement in the 50-over format over the past few years. The Tigers reached the quarter-finals in the 2015 World Cup. They won six consecutive ODI home series in the last two years before England beat them 2-1 a few days ago.
However, the Tigers have not been able to convert their good form in ODIs to the Test arena.

So, playing a Test after 15 months will be another challenge the Tigers will face against the visiting England side.
“I think it is technical and mental adjustments. We haven’t played longer version, even at the domestic level, for a long time. The main players didn’t get to play NCL (National Cricket League) this season as well. It is the challenge in international cricket where they play a lot of matches in different formats. The Tigers coach also said Bangladesh are lacking players who are ready to compete in the Test arena. “I can’t try players at the international level, which is the unfortunate thing in Bangladesh cricket that we are facing. We are actually trying players at the national level. This cannot happen. It is a bigger challenge than anything else. We have had lot of injuries and players lose form because we haven’t played for a long time. We don’t know where the fast bowlers are at this stage. It is a matter of just trusting the players that we have in squad. And being patient,” said Hathurusingha.
