For the first time in Bangladesh’s history, the country will play a three-match Test series in their upcoming assignment at home against Zimbabwe. The Bangladesh Cricket Board yesterday confirmed the itinerary of the lengthiest series where Zimbabwe will arrive in October for three Tests and five ODIs.
Zimbabwe are expected to reach Dhaka on October 17 and play a single three-day warm-up match at Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium from October 20, before both sides move to the port city for the first two Tests.
The last Test match of the series will be played at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium (SBNS) on November 11.
The teams will fly back to Chittagong for the last two ODIs after playing the first three at Mirpur on November 19, 21 and 23 respectively. The last two ODIs will be held on November 26 and 28.
With so much cricket scheduled, it was expected some new venues would get the taste of international cricket. But only two venues named for the whole series raised eye brows of many while questions were also asked behind the decision.
When quarried, BCB reasoned Khulna for not having standard accommodation facilities while Bogra had the issue of transportation as there is no domestic airport in that region.
While the latest international venue of the country, the Sylhet Divisional Stadium which hosted World Twenty20 matches just few months back, was ruled out due to work to be done on the drainage system.
