Different controversies seem to be following Bangladesh all rounder Shakib al Hasan for quite some time now but the latest one is likely to prove costly as the 27-year old is said to have breached the code of conduct after flying to the West Indies to take part in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) Twenty20 without the No-Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).
And this time it was learned that the board is looking to take some serious action against Shakib as he was asked to join the ongoing training camp immediately, informed acting BCB CEO on Thursday.
Shakib, part of the Tigers squad that began their camp on July 1 for the upcoming tour of the West Indies next month, left the country on the morning of July 2. It was learned that Shakib will return to Dhaka from London today and join the camp. Shakib was expected to play the entire CPL T20 which is scheduled to come to an end through the final on August 16 and join the Bangladesh team, who will begin their tour with the ODI series starting from August 20.
However the new head coach of the national side, Chandika Hathurusingha, wanted Shakib to join the national team on July 31 which the all rounder agreed upon after talking with Hathurusingha over phone.
But the sudden decision taken by the board asking Shakib to join the camp immediately raised some questions after the recent round of controversies. Last month, Shakib was alleged to have left the dressing room and was said to have beaten up a spectator during the first ODI against India at Mirpur on June 15.
Meanwhile the issue of Shakib’s NOC and leaving the dressing room during an international game without prior permission is expected to be discussed in the upcoming board meeting on July 7 while it was learned that the premier Bangladeshi all rounder may face a fine of Tk200,000 for his latter offence. Moreover, shockingly for Shakib, he may not get approval to play in the second edition of the CPL.
It was also learned that Shakib had an argument with the new Sri Lankan coach over the aforementioned issues which might be one of the reasons behind the board asking Shakib to join the camp instead of letting him play in the West Indies.
