Update : 17 Jan 2014, 06:02 PM

Hard hitting opener Tamim Iqbal, who is playing for Islami Bank East Zone in the Bangladesh Cricket League (BCL), informed yesterday that Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is trying their level best to prepare the cricketers for the T20 World Championship and the upcoming home series against Sri Lanka at the launching ceremony of Veloce cycles yesterday.

“Bangladesh Cricket Board has tried their best to organise two Twenty20 series, coupled with Bangladesh Cricket League as part of the preparation for the forthcoming bilateral series with Sri Lanka, Asia Cup and ICC World Twenty20. It will help us to boost-up in the coming series of showpiece events. If we can give our best performance in the games, it will be easier for us to cross the hurdle of the competition,” said Tamim.

The dashing left hander is not thinking about Afghanistan, who will be taking part in the Asia Cup for the first time and later face Bangladesh in the T20 World Championship round match. “They are a good side, no doubt. We are not thinking much about them. Particularly there will be comparatively less opportunity to come back in a T20 match. The team who will play well in the last two overs, the result will come in their favour,” explained the opener.

He went on to add, “We will be playing in our home condition. We’ve been playing well in the last two years. They are a good side. We will not take them lightly. If we could play our usual game, there will be no problem, I think.”

Tamim, one of the senior players in the national side, pointed out that Bangladesh cricket was doing well as players from the national side were mostly performing well, “When there is competition, everybody tries to show their very best to be included in the team. Now, almost every player is performing well. It is very good for the country’s cricket, It is a positive sign.”
