Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) officials flew to Colombo, Sri Lanka to attend the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) meeting where one of the main points of discussion will be the fate of hosting the Asia Cup Cricket, which Bangladesh is scheduled to host. Before leaving the country, BCB officials had a meeting with the home ministry at the secretariat yesterday regarding security issues for the upcoming events in Bangladesh.
Kamal Uddin, the additional secretary of the home ministry, headed the meeting and top Rab officials along with other highly placed people from other intelligence agencies, were also present.
Asia Cup Cricket is scheduled to take place from February 24 to March 7 in Bangladesh but recent political unrest in the country has led to security concerns and the world media has been speculating that the tournament might be shifted to another country.
It was learnt that the meeting between the BCB officials and the home ministry was about the security plans for the upcoming World T20 Championship, Asia Cup and the upcoming Sri Lanka series starting later this month.
However the CEO of the BCB Nizamuddin Chowdhury informed that it was just routine work which took place before any home series. “It was our routine work. We always have a meeting with the home ministry before any home series,” he said.
According sources, the security provided for the visiting teams will be same as prime ministers and presidents receives, with Rab, BGB and Swat all working together. Each team will be protected by an assistant police super with a unit of joint security force.
